Ask Me!: One Source Talent?

What do you think of the program One Source Talent? Have you heard about it? If so, what do you know about it? I registered online and have an evaluation set up but I’m scared that I’ll have to pay before finally being submitted into the program. I’m from a single mother income and I know acting programs tend to cost like hundreds or thousands.  Do you know if they land you into commercials, films or TV shows etc.,

I don’t know for sure about One Source Talent, but I do know that if they advertise that they’re a talent management and/or agency (they do) that you should absolutely not have to pay a single penny up front.

Actually, after a minor, preliminary google search on them I can see that they have been reported as a scam. I don’t know if this is true, but it’s not a good sign. I recommend always researching schools, agents, managers, casting directors, etc., before you ever hand over any money. You must take responsibility for your part. And, the old adage is as true in acting as it is anywhere else: If it sounds too good to be true… it probably is. Best to do your due diligence and make sure you know everything you can before handing over your (or your parents) hard-earned cash.

So. Primary take-away from this post? Stay away from any company that tells you that they will get you work if you pay them upfront. A manager and an agent will only ever take a percentage of your earnings  (manager 15% and agent 10%)  after you have worked and been paid, and they will usually negotiate this fee in addition to your rate when they can.

On another note, acting classes are necessary (no matter what story the press spins about current oscar-winning actresses having not taken classes… ) and they can be expensive, so I would put your money in one of the more established acting schools in the city.

Good luck!
