Ask Me!: How to find principle work in NY?

QUESTION FROM: Benjamin Wood
What is the Best way to find principle work in NY. I am on NYcastings,Actors Access, casting networks and registered with central casting. I am in the industry 3 years as an actor 12 years as a former WWE pro wrestler. I do not have an agent for most of my principle roles are independent films and major films and TV is all extra work.

Hey there Benjamin,

From what you’ve told me here you are doing everything right. I would make sure that your headshot and resume are always up to date and that if you have a reel that you keep it current. Make sure you are only submitting to things that fit your type, and that your online profiles are the same from site to site so that casting directors get used to seeing you. If you look different from one site to the next you can fall through the cracks.

The next thing to consider is what you’re doing outside of online submissions. Are you in class? Are you working on honing your craft? Are surrounding yourself with people who will challenge you, people who are making their own work, and people who are booking principle work? Ours is a career that is dependent on collaboration. We won’t be very successful if we’re not continuously putting our face out into the world and meeting new people.

Thanks for asking, I hope that is helpful.
