Hey lady! I had a question about resumes you might be able to help me out with. Would you ever put links on your acting resume, say if the gig was a web series or something exclusively on the web? Or is that not really done? Thanks and great Tumblr!

Thanks Halle!

Well, if we’re talking about a printed resume and you have a website (which at this point in time, every actor should.. ) you should put your website at the top of your resume with your name, email address and phone number. And your website should have a clear path to your reel.

If the resume is digital (on the web or a pdf, say) I think it could be great to have it be interactive with links next to the jobs that you have reel for, leading potential employers to clips of your work.

But I will say this, I would not post links to any films/web-series/TV, etc unless it is of good quality. I don’t mean just technically (a clear picture, etc) I mean content-wise. A bad reel can really hurt your chances of booking work. The credits can look great on your resume but if the footage itself is poorly acted, terribly shot and has bad audio, I wouldn’t use it on my reel. The only time iffy footage is OK to use is when your individual work is stand-out good.

If you’d rather leave the links off your resume, another way to get people to your reel or clips is to link to them in your cover letter if you have one.

As far as taking a second to tailor your resume to a given job, I’m all for it!
