Ask Me!: What jobs have you had?

Anonymous asked
As an actress what kind of survival jobs did you have? What jobs would be great because of the flexibility etc?

I’ve answered this, in part, Ask Me!: Full-time work and acting?” href=”http://thenycactor.net/2010/11/15/ask-me-full-time-work-and-acting/” target=”_blank”>in another article on full-time work and acting.

Freelance work such as copy-writing, editing, subtitling, temping, or any other kind of job that would allow you to make your own hours is good for an actor.

Service industry work is another good option.

I have had SO many different kinds of jobs. Here’s a list of the ones I can remember:

Dog-Walker

House-Cleaner

Cat/dog/house-sitter

Casting Director assistant

Waitress

Assistant chef

Bartender

Baby-sitter

Editor

Production Assistant

Production Manager

Paralegal

Receptionist

Personal Assistant

Sales Associate

Merchandiser

Photographer

Teacher

Administrator

Secretary

Location Scout

Caterer

Phew! Anything goes, really. Just do something that you can make a good amount of money at and that will allow you to do what you need to become successful as an actor.
